DICOM Modality Worklist SCU 5.0

DICOM Modality Worklist SCU by Sun Microsystems, Inc. is a client-side implementation of the DICOM Modality Worklist (MWL) Service Class that lets imaging devices and workflow applications query a worklist server (typically a RIS or PACS) and automatically populate patient, order, and scheduled procedure step information. Acting as a Service Class User (SCU), it issues C-FIND requests against the Modality Worklist Information Model and returns structured results, reducing manual data entry, minimizing identification errors, and streamlining study setup across CT, MR, DR, ultrasound, and other modalities.

Key capabilities:

• Standards-based interoperability with DICOM PS3.4 Modality Worklist Information Model – FIND (SOP Class UID 1.2.840.10008.5.1.4.31).
• Supports common query keys such as modality, station AE title, and date/time ranges, and returns typical attributes including Patient ID/Name, Accession Number, Requested Procedure, and Scheduled Procedure Step details.
• Configurable AE Titles, presentation contexts, host/port, character sets, and timeouts for flexible deployment.
• Robust association management with clear DICOM status reporting, logging, and error handling; optional TLS-secured connections where supported.
• Suitable for integration into Java-centric toolchains and workflows commonly associated with Sun environments.

Typical uses include connecting modalities to a HIS/RIS to fetch scheduled procedures, embedding worklist retrieval in modality consoles, and preloading worklists to improve exam throughput and data integrity.
